The Tutor Program serves students who are primarily from the ESL classes, providing them with additional help with their English learning. Native English speaking and bilingual tutors are trained by the tutor coordinator, and tutoring is one-on-one or in small groups. Tutoring sessions are held for 1 ½ to 2 hours per week, and meet at BCNC or other public locations.
The TAG Tutor Program combines English language study at home with the support of trained bilingual tutors who are usually graduates of our program. TAG stands for Take And Give because while TAG tutors teach new immigrants basic English, they themselves learn more English, and gain new skills.TAG students are usually on our waiting list for a class or are unable to attend a regular class. Through participating in TAG, students are tutored once a week up to 23 weeks and have access to take-home DVD lessons together with exercise sheets and billingual supplemental materials. TAG tutors are chosen for their desire and ability to help others learn English and are trained in tutoring and supported by the Tutor Coordinator.
The program also offers citizenship classes (for a fee) to help studentss and community members in all phases of the citizenship process.
