Abdoul

BCNC Adult Education Graduate

Meet Abdoul, a young professional who immigrated from Mauritania to the U.S. in 2023. Like many immigrants, Abdoul found it difficult to adjust to his new life due to his lack of English skills. At BCNC, Abdoul found support, guidance, and a place where he could create pathways to move forward. Abdoul learned important English language skills for everyday life. He gained job skills, built a resume, and increased his self-confidence with BCNC’s STEP into Healthcare training program. Soon after graduating, he secured a full‑time job as a Healthcare Security Officer at Boston Children’s Hospital. Not long after, Abdoul also accepted a second job as a banquet staff at the Omni Parker House hotel in Boston. With BCNC’s support and guidance, Abdoul was able to connect with U.S. culture, advance his career, and found community.

“Everything I have today in the United State is because of BCNC. BCNC helped me to apply for a job and to have a confidence.”

Brian and Austin

Brian and Austin

BCNC Youth Program Graduates

Brothers Brian and Austin were students at North Quincy High School looking for college preparation assistance and mentorship when they found BCNC. Through BCNC’s YouLead and College Access Programs (CAPS), Brian and Austin gained leadership skills, mentorship, and guidance from staff who understood the unique challenges facing Asian American and immigrant youth. With new confidence and advocacy skills developed at BCNC, Brian and Austin successfully advocated to their high school administrator to bring BCNC to their school. Through youth leadership and employment programs, they built teamwork skills, formed meaningful connections, and learned how to give back to the community. Today, as college students at UMass Amherst, they credit BCNC with helping them become leaders and find a sense of belonging..

“BCNC changed our lives because we learned how to become leaders. BCNC gave us a sense of community.”

Brian

“BCNC is a pillar of community. It is a way for both the youth to explore their identities, to gain opportunities that they’ve never had access to in high school.”

Austin
