Find a Program Adult Education Workforce Initiatives   

The STEP into Healthcare (Skills Training for Entry-level Positions in Healthcare) Program is a free training for intermediate-advanced English language learners seeking full-time entry-level employment in the healthcare industry. The training includes: 

  • Skills for communicating with patients, visitors, and colleagues
  • English for work 
  • Computer and phone skills 
  • Job search and interview practice 
  • One-on-one help every week with finding and keeping a job 
  • OHSA-10 training and certification 
  • Eligible students may receive up to 4 monthly T-passes 

This program will help you learn how to work with customers, get a full-time job, and take your first step into building your career in the U.S. Past graduates have secured jobs in retail, hospitals, supermarkets, hospitality, and more.

Location:

Schedule:

  • Monday-Thursday, 9:45 am – 1:15 pm, for 12 weeks
  • Start dates in July, November, and March
  • 3 hours of homework and 16 hours of class each week
  • 1 hour of 1 on 1 career counseling each week

Requirements:

  • Live in Greater Boston area
  • Low-income
  • Available to work 30 or more hours pre week
  • Non-native English speaker with intermediate English

Cost:

  • Free

Applications accepted year-round

BCNC partners with Tufts Medicine and Beth Israel Lahey Health to help students get jobs in:

  • Hospitals  
  • Medical Centers 
  • Rehabilitation Centers 

This program is supported by the City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development Neighborhood Jobs Trust and Community Development Block Grant program through the Economic Development and Industrial Corporation of Boston, MassHire Metro North Workforce Board, and Mass Gaming Commission’s Community Mitigation Fund. This program is an approved SNAP Path to Work program.
