“We Share We Listen 2019”: A Dialogue About Asian American Mental Health

On August 23rd, BCNC Family Services collaborated with Harvard University’s Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA) to bring a panel discussion to Quincy on the social emotional health, academic pressure, and cultural implications of growing up Asian American. 72 attendees viewed a clip of Looking for Luke, a documentary about Luke Tang, an Asian American Harvard student who took his own life and his parents’ journey in understanding the impact of depression—raising awareness and destigmatizing help for mental health issues. Keynote speaker Dr. Catherine Vuky presented about the Asian American youth’s struggle with mental health and how parents and caregivers can support their children. Afterward, a panel of nine Asian American Harvard medical and dental students held a Q&A session.
