BCNC Portraits: Sarah
I’m Sarah and I am a BCNC parent, my 3-year-old son attends BCNC’s Acorn Center for Early Education and Care. My husband Eric and I both work at a local public elementary school in Chinatown.
We knew about BCNC because many school staff and parents had children or students at BCNC early education or after school programs and they all spoke highly of the programs. Although we were happy with our previous daycare, we chose BCNC because of its strong programming through the older ages. It was also important to us that our son learns about his cultural heritage and learns Cantonese Chinese because Eric speaks Cantonese.
As educators ourselves, we understand the hard work of early childhood educators. We also know how difficult it has been to adapt to the pandemic environment. We have always found that BCNC staff are caring and very knowledgeable about early childhood development and education. When the pandemic hit, I was very impressed at how quickly BCNC responded to meet the needs of working families and transformed their physical space to manage social distancing and keep the children safe. I personally learned a lot from BCNC about what to do to keep children in a classroom safe and healthy since they opened well before the public schools.
My dream for my family is to have my son grow as a compassionate member of his community. BCNC is vital to the community due to how comprehensive it is as a community resource.
