Quincy Teen Staff serve Children at QCARE

This summer, our Youth Center hired, placed in jobs, and provided professional development workshops to 36 teens. Professional development workshops topics included resume writing, guidance on how to work effectively with a supervisor, tips for managing their finances, time management skills, and interview experience.

Four teens were placed with our new partner, Quincy After School Child Care (QCARE). The teens supported the summer program by assisting groups and leading activities with children.

Special thanks to our new funders: Mabel Louise Riley Foundation, M&T Bank, and Stand with Asians and dedicated supporters, City of Boston’s SuccessLink program, John Hancock MLK Summer Scholars, and Tufts Medical Center.

Meet our Teens

  • Kyle has been working with BCNC for over a year, including volunteering throughout the school year.  “The professional development workshops have helped me grow in many ways, especially with management skills. I’ve done a lot of professional development before but learning how to manage money and time has been great for me.”

  • Stella is a rising high school junior, and this is her first real job experience. “My favorite part of QCARE is definitely the bonds I made. Everyone is so comfortable. It makes me feel warm and welcome in the community, especially because the kids here are so sweet.”

  • Mandy is from Hingham and this is her first experience with BCNC Quincy. “I get to learn new skills from BCNC. We had a guest speaker come in for managing money, and I think that was really helpful. We also did a time management presentation, which helped me.”

  • Yuyang is an immigrant from China.  “My favorite part of QCARE is working with the kids. They are really fun.”
