Meet the Planning Committee
Jon is a long-time BCNC volunteer who serves on the Bamboo Circle and the Quincy Leadership Council. Both volunteering and running have been lifelong passions.
“I began volunteering with BCNC when I moved to Quincy almost 6 years ago because I saw firsthand the amazing work the organization does to uplift the community in so many ways.
I was lucky to have represented BCNC in the 2019 Boston Marathon. We wanted to bring a 5k Run to the BCNC community as a way to bring families together, get active, and highlight the ongoing impact of BCNC Quincy.”
Kassandra is a former BCNC Red Oak participant and staff and most recently, represented Team BCNC in the 127th Boston Marathon.
“I’m excited to co-chair because I know firsthand how vital BCNC Quincy’s programs are for Asian and immigrant children. When I attended BCNC’s programs as kid, this community made me feel safe, welcomed, and nurtured.
I got involved with BCNC again as an adult, and recently represented BCNC in the Boston Marathon. I wanted to be a part of the Family Fun Run, which combines my love for running and giving back to our community.”
Meet Lawrence Chan, a Bamboo Circle member and currently serving on the planning committee for the Family Fun Run.
"I'm excited and honored to help organize BCNC's first annual run in Quincy! BCNC's work has expanded over the years beyond its namesake neighborhood, and I hope our event can bring more awareness to its increasing presence in the community.
As a runner, I've seen the positivity the sport brings, and I'm excited that running can bring together people to recognize the great work BCNC continues to do. Hope to see you at the start line!"
Meet Bailey Katsumata-Smith, who is serving on the planning committee for BCNC Quincy's Family Fun Run.
"I’m so honored to be a part of the committee! For nearly ten years, BCNC Quincy has already done so much, including but not limited to providing stellar adult education programs, bringing opportunities to youth in the area, and ensuring immigrant families receive the support they need.
I am all about getting outdoors and bringing the community together to celebrate BCNC! Super looking forward to this day!"
Meet Kelly Yardley, former BCNC staff and Team BCNC runner, who is serving on the planning committee for the Family Fun Run.
"Running the Boston Marathon for BCNC in 2015 launched my career in nonprofit fundraising. After the marathon, I joined BCNC as a Development staff member, managing future Team BCNC runners. I have since transitioned to work with charity runners at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Volunteering "where it all started" is a privilege.
I'm so excited to apply everything I've learned at BCNC and Dana-Farber to help build an event that supports building better pathways for Asian immigrants and families."
