Students Celebrate Completion of STEP into Healthcare Program
November 10, 2025

In October, BCNC Adult Education proudly celebrated the graduation of 10 dedicated students from our STEP into Healthcare (Skills Training for Entry-level Positions in Healthcare) program.

Over the course of three months, students demonstrated incredible perseverance and commitment as they completed a rigorous training program designed for intermediate to advanced English language learners pursuing full-time, entry-level careers in the healthcare industry. Special thanks to our employer partners Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital, Mass General Brigham, Tufts Medical Center, and Boston Medical Center.
For many participants, this program represented a series of exciting firsts — their first time learning about working in a healthcare setting, their first time crafting a professional resume in English, and even their first time navigating the public transportation system independently to attend classes. Each step reflected skill-building, as well as the confidence and resilience that define our BCNC community.

BCNC Adult Education alumna, Dareen, joined the celebration and shared her advice to navigate the job market after graduation. (Read Dareen’s story)
“Take full advantage of everything BCNC offers and try not to stay only with people from your own country, step out and talk to others.”

Tu Anh shared about her experience in the program:
“I came to America so my children could get a better education — little did I know I could also do the same. Thank you, BCNC, and my mentor John, for helping me through this journey“
John Chee (L) is a mentor to many BCNC students. He first learned about BCNC back in 1998 from former BCNC board member, Susan Wong, and has been a loyal supporter ever since. After retiring from Fidelity Investments last year, John decided to give back in a more active way and now volunteers to help adult students prepare for job interviews. As a first-generation Chinese immigrant who moved from Japan to the U.S. as a teenager in 1981, John deeply understands the challenges our adult learners face.
The STEP into Healthcare Program is supported by the City of Boston Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development, the MassHire Metro North Workforce Board, and the SNAP Path to Work program.
