[Postponed] Chinatown Presents: Cultural Notes, A Classical Music Recital

Because the health and safety for our artists, seniors, audiences and community members is our priority, this event has been postponed. Pao Arts Center is proud to present an evening of classical music that brings together Eastern and Western culture. Artists Han-Wei Chen, Leona Cheung, Anthony León, and Esther Yi-An Tien will perform songs for voice and piano, featuring music in multiple languages.

Registration is free. $10 suggested donation supports community arts programming for all.

Baritone Han-Wei Chen is attaining his Graduate Diploma in Voice Performance at the New England Conservatory, studying under Bradley Williams. Han Wei received his Master's at the Taipei National University of the Arts. He has obtained many prizes in singing competitions held in Taiwan, including first prize at the Taipei National Competition of Opera ensemble and Taiwan Association of Vocal Artists New Star Award in 2016.

Leona Cheung received her Master of Music in Collaborative Piano from the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Tanya Blaich and Cameron Stowe. She has an outstanding career as collaborative pianist specializing in art song repertoire. Past season highlights include her extensive performances at the Oxford Lieder Festival (Oxford, United Kingdom), Leeds Lieder Festival (Leeds, United Kingdom), Toronto Summer Music Festival (Toronto, Canada), Franz-Schubert-Institut (Baden bei Wien, Austria), Songfest (Los Angeles, United States), Liederabend series at New England Conservatory (Boston, United States), and Hong Kong SingFest (Hong Kong).

Cuban and Colombian tenor Anthony León holds a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance from La Sierra University in Riverside, California. He currently studies voice under Bradley Williams, pursuing a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music. Most recently, Anthony starred as Mr. Owen (The Tenor) in Postcard from Morocco at the New England Conservatory of Music.

Esther Yi-An Tien, soprano, was born and raised in Taiwan. She earned her Bachelor’s degree with Ah Young Hong at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, where she was a recipient of George Woodhead Prize in Voice. She is currently working on her master’s degree in the studio of Dr. Ian Howell at New England Conservatory of Music. This season, Esther will be performing Linfea and Il Destino from Cavalli’s La Calisto with the NEC Opera in the Huntington Theater

Directions: The Pao Arts Center is located in the One Greenway building, 99 Kneeland Street. For GPS driving directions, use 66 Hudson Street, Boston, MA 02111. From Hudson Street, walk up the stairs and across the deck to the 99 Albany Street entrance. The public parking garage entrance is on Hudson Street. The Pao Arts Center is accessible by the MBTA Green, Red, and Orange lines.
