Ever wanted to tell your own Boston Chinatown story? Learn how you can develop your photography and storytelling skills with the Pao Arts Center, UMass Boston, and photographer Katie Salisbury.
The Inside Chinatown project, which will take place from January to June 2019, invites 10 - 12 community members to tell their story and history through photography. Learn about photography and how to contribute to the history of Chinatown.
Each participant will receive a $350 honorarium.
Participants will:
Attend 6 workshops (once a month) from January to June 2019
Learn about history and contemporary culture of Chinatown
Learn how to take photographs from a professional photographer
Take photos of Chinatown
Meet with mentors to talk about the photos
Select photos which will go on display at the Pao Arts Center in Fall 2019.

About the Artist: Katie Salisbury is a storyteller based in Brooklyn, NY. She's a writer, editor, and photographer whose work has appeared in Marie Claire, VICE, Refinery29, Lucky Peach, Roads & Kingdoms, On Being, The Rumpus, the Asian American Writers' Workshop, and elsewhere. Most recently, she was an editorial fellow at Guernica magazine. As a Spring 2017 TED Resident, she gave a TED Talk titled "As American as Chop Suey" about her photojournalism project on Chinese restaurant workers in New York. In 2016 she contributed to the documentary project She Is Syria, which chronicled the stories of women and girl refugees. Previously, she edited award-winning books for Amazon Publishing and HarperCollins. Originally from Southern California, Katie is half Chinese and half Anglo-Irish.
