In March, when BCNC sites closed due to the pandemic, Adult Education continued English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) and workforce development classes virtually. In addition, staff checked in on with each student individually to provide consultation on unemployment benefits, basic needs, or other resources. This academic year, classes, advising, and weekly conversation circles continue to run virtually.
Currently, our students face a number of challenges, including technology and internet access, lack of childcare, unemployment, and housing insecurity. One critical challenge is reliable internet access. Students without access to internet or technology at home often have the most critical needs and yet, they are unable to participate in our classes because of this barrier.
This Giving Tuesday, can we count on you to provide 20 immigrant students with internet access?
Our goal is to raise $3,000 by Tuesday, December 8th to provide 20 students with internet access for English classes.
$10 pays for part of an internet plan for one student
$25 pays for two weeks of an internet plan for one student
$50 pays for 1 month of an internet plan for one student
Adult English language learners rely on us to continue learning during the pandemic. Thank you for your support!
