Meet the Runner: Caleb Ho

This is Caleb’s first time running the Boston Marathon, and he’s representing #TeamBCNC. Help Caleb reach his goal and make a donation here!

1.  Why are you interested in running the Boston Marathon and representing Team BCNC?

I have lived in the Leather District the past 23 years, and have been incredibly fortunate to enjoy all of our Chinatown’s offerings. This year, I wanted to find ways to support my Chinatown community in addition to dining and shopping in Chinatown. BCNC is an incredible organization, and when given the opportunity to amplify BCNC through running the Boston Marathon, I grabbed it without hesitation. Plus, being able to run the most iconic Marathon is just incredible.

2. When and why did you start running?

Although not very fast, I have always enjoyed running. It is a simple act that doesn’t require much equipment or others. It has always been a great way for me to begin the day, reset the day, and clear my mind. This will be my 3rd marathon, and I am grateful for the opportunity to train and be part of this special event.

3. What empowers you to keep running after a long day?

For me, training for the marathon requires constant dedication. I am almost 52 years young, and I need to really put in the work! Running is very calming for me and it is something I enjoy. This year, knowing that I am representing BCNC and my Chinatown community is all the motivation I need.

4. Where is your dream destination for running?

I would love to run the Paris Marathon! Something about running and seeing the Eiffel Tower…magical.

5. What is one thing you can’t run without?

My music! I create specific playlists for training and race day. It is a way for me to tune out the world for just a bit, and focus on one foot in front of the other. Growing up in the 80s, my playlists are almost exclusively from that wonderful decade.

6. What do you hope to achieve with Boston Marathon?

To finish and still be vertical. For me, race day is the reward for all the past months of training. Running in the early morning, late at night, in the cold, in the snow, in the rain, in the sleet, weekdays, weekends, holidays. For this marathon, I also want to amplify and raise awareness of our beautiful Chinatown community. We have struggled more than others the past few years, yet we persist.

7. If you could make up any Gatorade flavor that would be served at the marathon aid stations, what would it be?

Kiwi
