Making a Movie

Learn the ropes of what it takes to create a video with Mandy Chan—a filmmaker who specializes in action movies with roots in Boston and Hong Kong. The seminar will cover equipment, lighting, software, and what you can do with the most basic recording device: your smartphone.

 

Fee: $25

About the artist: Mandy Chan is a filmmaker who specializes in action films. He has been both behind the camera as a director and in front of the camera as an actor, stuntman, choreographer. He grew up in Boston’s Chinatown alongside pals such as Donnie Yen 甄子丹 and John Tsang (currently the Secretary of Treasury in Hong Kong). At the age of 20, Mandy moved back to Hong Kong to begin his movie career. His mentors and colleagues include the Yuen brothers (also known as “The Peace Family”): Yuen Cheung-yan 袁祥仁and Yuen Woo-ping 袁和平.

Currently, Mandy owns SkyLab Entertainment, where he produces affordable videos without compromising professional quality from short films to documentaries and from ads to wedding ceremonies. He also tutors students at Bunker Hill Community College, MA and runs an on-going martial arts film production program at Chinese Martial Arts of Acton, MA.

Directions: The Pao Arts Center is located in the One Greenway building, 99 Kneeland Street. For GPS driving directions, use 66 Hudson Street, Boston, MA 02111. From Hudson Street, walk up the stairs and across the deck to the 99 Albany Street entrance. The public parking garage entrance is on Hudson Street. The Pao Arts Center is accessible by the MBTA green, red, and orange lines.
