Michelle Chen Kuo and Christopher Kuo, a mother and son two piano team, traverse the complete two piano collection by Sergei Rachmaninoff, the crown jewel of the two piano repertoire. The first half juxtaposes Russian Rhapsody, Rachmaninoff's cheeky variations on a Russian theme written when he was a conservatory student, against his final work, Symphonic Dances, a wickedly challenging study of orchestral texture and conservative style. The second half features the descriptive and lyrical Fantaisie-Tableaux suite and the intensely passionate Duo Suite No. 2.
