Director of Programs Yoyo Yau spoke as a panelist at Tufts University’s Voices from Chinatown: Resilience in the time of COVID-19 and Anti-Asian Racism Webinar.

Along with panelists from Asian Community Development Corporation and Chinatown Resident Association, Yoyo shared about the strengths and needs of the community. “Because of gentrification, a lot of families already are pushed out of Chinatown. However, they still come back to Chinatown to receive services,” Yoyo said. “So I would like to challenge [viewers] to think about Chinatown beyond the geographic location [and] the concept of community.”

Yoyo highlighted the various challenges that Chinatown residents and the Asian American community are facing due to the effects of the pandemic. She emphasized the ways that BCNC has pivoted to address the effects of the pandemic as well as anti-Asian racism.
