2020 Team BCNC Boston Marathon Runners
/We’re proud to announce Team BCNC runners for the 2020 Boston Marathon, Alice and James.
Alice is a projects manager in New York, but Boston is her hometown. She grew up in Chinatown and remembers how BCNC programs supported her family and many others. Alice’s reason for running as part of Team BCNC is that “BCNC gave opportunities to my immigrant parents to thrive in the community while raising four children.”
James, a senior at Harvard University, has been a dedicated volunteer in Chinatown for the past four years. Boston’s Chinatown taught James about struggle and perseverance. His fundraising goal of $15,000 is only slightly more than the median yearly household income in Chinatown. He aims to “highlight Asian American issues that go unnoticed and the incredible work being done to solve them.”

We interviewed our runners to get to know their personalities!
What’s your favorite workout song or playlist?
James: 1539 N. Calvert – JPEGMAFIA, Starslight – At the Drive-In, Higher – Carly Rae Jepsen, Trampoline – Kero Kero Bonito
Alice: I usually work out to upbeat music. My favorite playlist is the “Workout Twerkout” playlist on Spotify.
How many pairs of running shoes have you worn out?
Alice: Probably two, but it’s just an excuse to buy new sneakers!
James: One pair per year?
When you get tired, what keeps you from quitting?
James: The thought of finally eating or drinking lots of sugar afterwards.
Alice: When that second wind blows through.
You’ve just finished a workout—what’s your go-to post-workout snack?
James: Dried dates and fresh fruits like watermelon, mango, and kiwi!
Alice: I usually chug a large ice coffee, but lately a giant bottle of Gatorade.
Speaking of Gatorade, if you could make up any Gatorade flavor that would be served at the Marathon aid stations, what flavor would you create?
Alice: I wouldn’t change it because I like the fruit punch flavor.
James: Golden kiwi and passionfruit.
What’s one thing you can’t run without?
Alice: Music, because it helps me keep tempo.
James: My glasses.
