Teen Employment Program Builds Up Boston's Future Leaders

BCNC equipped youth with essential workplace skills and hands-on experience that will benefit them in their future careers, thanks to funding from the City of Boston, Department of Youth Employment and Opportunity. This summer, nine youth from Boston worked in different BCNC departments including child care, Pao Arts Center, and operations.

One highlight was a resume writing workshop led by the career development coordinator from the City of Boston, Department of Youth Employment and Opportunity. Youth learned to craft a compelling resume that showcases their skills and experiences.

As a result of this program:

  • 85% of youth participants felt more confident in their workforce development skills, including resume building, interview training, and financial literacy.

  • 90% of youth participants increased in confidence in their teamwork, project planning, and group discussion skills.

“This summer, I worked with the BCNC Operations team to support the day to day needs at BCNC. Being bilingual skills in English and Chinese was a great advantage. My favorite experience was engaging with the children and parents when they came to BCNC.” - Ziqi, youth participant

The BCNC Teen Employment Program provides jobs that cultivate essential skills and confidence among Boston's youth. As these young individuals embark on their future careers, they carry with them valuable experiences and lessons learned from this summer.
