BCNC Quincy Brought 1,800 Family Members Together

On Saturday, June 22nd, BCNC Quincy’s Family Fun Fair brought together 1,800 children, youth, parents and caregivers, and community members for a day filled with laughter, free activities, and cultural performances. The event celebrated BCNC Quincy’s 10th anniversary of strengthening Asian and new immigrant families in the South Shore. Under overcast skies at the Joseph W. Koch Field, children enjoyed bouncy obstacle courses, a play zone, balloon animals, face painting, floral crown arts and crafts, and the opportunity to pet baby animals.

Bartholomew Jae, co-chair of the BCNC Quincy’s Leadership Council and BCNC Board Member, kicked off the Fair with a warm welcome. Senator Keenan and State Representative Tackey Chan provided remarks, both touching upon the importance of community events and supporting families. Paul Bi, co-chair of the Quincy’s Leadership Council and BCNC Board Member, encouraged guests to check out all that the fair had to offer. BCNC Family Services staff, Ying-Chen Wang served as the MC for the fair. Special thanks to our volunteers including employees from State Street Corporation for helping the fair run smoothly.

Children tested their chopstick skills with a challenge by Quincy Coders and got creative with arts and crafts hosted by Boston Children’s Museum. Pao Arts Center hosted calligraphy and paper cutting activities for children and families. For parents, this Fair also offers important health and educational resources. Tufts Medicine provided health screenings, and BCNC programs distributed flyers for classes, parenting workshops, counseling, and mental health support services. The Building Our Bonds Authentically (BOBA) Project conducted outreach to support their research about how Asian teens and their families feel about issues related to Asian and Asian American identity.

Guests refueled with water and snacks provided by BJ’s Wholesale Club, C4 Energy drinks provided by Nutrabolt, and lunch from the Chicken & Rice Guys food truck. The Fair culminated with the famous watermelon eating contest with the lucky winners taking home a gift card.
