BCNC Portrait: Mubing

Mubing received the Youth Leader Award at the Mayor’s Youth Summit

Mubing, a youth participant at BCNC, received the 2025 Youth Leader Award at the City of Boston Mayor’s Youth Summit. This award honors two Boston residents, ages 14 to 19, who demonstrate exceptional leadership among their peers and a strong commitment to civic engagement.

Mubing with Camilla, MEDscience teacher. Camilla was Mubing’s her former middle school and high school teacher.

Mubing immigrated from Guangdong, China with her parents and is the first in her family to attend college in the United States. She learned about BCNC Youth Program through her high school counselor and joined BCNC’s leadership program. Mubing hopes more students like her will be able to benefit from BCNC services:

“As immigrants, first-generation students, and minorities, we have to rely on ourselves in high school and applying for college because our parents don't have the information to give us. The BCNC Youth Program helps make up for that information gap and gives us support.”

Through BCNC and the generous full scholarship from the Harvard Medical School MEDscience Program, Mubing gained immersive, hands-on experience in both lab and clinical settings, exploring how research directly connects to and informs clinical medicine.

Reflecting back at her time at the BCNC Youth Program, Mubing shared: “One of the most important skills I have learned at BCNC is the infinite power of teamwork. Everyone has different experiences and personalities, which creates unique ideas, and when these ideas collide together, they can form a multi-faceted and in-depth project.”

Mubing shares her plan for the future is to deepen her knowledge of women’s health and build a community dedicated to sharing and learning together.
