BCNC Portraits: Alli

Good evening, my name is Alli, I'm a level 1 student at BCNC. I came to the United States a year ago from Guangzhou, China, with my 15-year old daughter and 7-year-old son. Before coming, I was worried about making a living because I didn't know any English. I decided to come so that my children could study in America. I heard about BCNC from the student who I sat next to on my flight from China to Boston.

On the morning of my second day in America, I walked for 45 minutes to find BCNC and register for English classes. Since then, my life changed. After one year, I can use basic English, speak in front of other people, and I even found a job. For the first time, I feel like living in the United States is not difficult.

Teachers and volunteers at BCNC are very patient in teaching English and about American life. During the pandemic, they called and emailed to see if were safe, have enough food, or need any help. I will never forget how they helped me as a new immigrant.

Thank you for your support. Because of you, I am more confident about my future. Because of you, I am learning and growing. Because of you, many other new immigrants have better lives in America.  Because of you, each student here has a chance to pursue their dream. I believe that as long as we work hard, we can all achieve our dreams and goals. And the best way to show that we are thankful is to use what we learned to help more people.

I am just one of the students helped by BCNC. Let's support BCNC to help even more people because one day BCNC may help someone you know be better and stronger.

Thank you for listening, I hope you have a wonderful evening!
