2022 BCNC Season Launch features Dr. Catherine Vuky speaking on Mental Health Needs in the Asian Community
/BCNC invited Dr. Catherine Vuky to speak on Wednesday, October 19th at our 2022 Season Launch, an annual meeting to engage BCNC Leadership on topics and issues that BCNC is focused on this year.
Dr. Vuky and South Cove Community Health Center are long-term partners with BCNC and our Family Services team in the area of providing mental health support to our families. Dr. Vuky, a clinical psychologist, addressed the stigmatization of mental health and highlighted specific issues that Asians face, in light of COVID-19 and anti-Asian hate and how it impacts individuals and families.
Since 2006, BCNC has been providing culturally competent and linguistically accessible behavioral and mental health services to Chinese-speaking immigrants through Family Services. Pandemic, racism, and immigration lead to increased levels of stress and mental health issues, and this year, BCNC is committed to further expanding behavioral and mental health services. Trains direct service staff on mental health first aid to recognize and address mental health concerns
Provides mental health support services through case management, short-term counseling, parent education, family wellness workshops, and
Leads coalitions with other community-based organizations to address problem gambling addiction and improve emotional wellness.
