Celebrating Yu Man Mui's 38 Years of Dedication

BCNC Family Child Care staff, Yu Man Mui, has retired after 38 years of dedication and hard work to Asian immigrant families. She started at BCNC as an early education teacher at the BCNC Acorn Center for Early Education and Care in 1984. After 25 years as a teacher, she transitioned into the role of a home visitor for the BCNC Family Child Care program for the last 13 years.

Mrs. Mui herself emigrated from Hong Kong in the 1970s. Before moving to the US, she was a kindergarten teacher in Hong Kong for several years. “When I was young, I decided I would work with children as a career. At BCNC, that was something I was able to do. Additionally, I thought of BCNC as a big family. I feel like the relationships I built with co-workers were valuable and meaningful,” shared Mrs. Mui.

While working at BCNC, she experienced many ups and downs and learned many things. Mrs. Mui explains, “Generally, when there were things I did not know about, Bernadette, the director of childcare, was able and willing to guide and teach me about anything as they came up.”

As a Chinese immigrant herself, she recognizes BCNC as an asset to the Chinese community, particularly for the recent immigrants, and that’s the reason why she decided to stay with BCNC for a long time. Right now, she’s looking forward to retiring and spending more time with her family. Mrs. Mui shares, “It is bittersweet to take a step back, but I want to emphasize that I am a phone call away if they need me at BCNC.”
